Hello fabulous deviants,
I'm sorry I've not been active on dA these last months. I'm kinda experiencing an artist block. I have had an uninterrupted serie of failures with my watercolors since 2 months, and this has caused me alot of anxiety. I guess some of you have also experienced this at one point. It is supposed to be part of life, & fortunately, to be only temporary. I hope this thing doesn't last too long because it is very painful & it undermines the self-confidence. I've been grinding my teeth for weeks, like an idiot, over wet Arches paper, to the point of causing myself mandibular joint disorder. After many failures, I started to be so anxious I would ruin my painting once more that I felt nausea in front of my worktable. I guess that is what is called an 'artist block'.
I feel better now - An experienced artist & wise soul I respect much told me: ``Une aquarelle, çà doit être fait avec amour``; A watercolor, it has to be done with love. So that is what I applied myself to: painting just for the love of watercolor, without expecting any particular 'results' other than just being lost in the genuine pleasure of watercolor painting. ... Then, I still have had a couple of so-so paintings while 'painting with love', my habilities have not fully recovered yet.
Painting with love is not automatically gonna 'unblock' your artist block, neither make you create instant 'marterpieces'. However, now my pain has greatly reduced and my satisfaction over the activity of painting has simply returned. A watercolor, or a drawing or a painting, it is something that shall be done with the pure love of practicing it, i.e. not 'executed' as a job that you do for to prove yourself. I think I understand that now.
I want you to know that I appreciate dearly all the support you my fellow deviants give me. It means the world to me.
